New England Mutiny tie Seacoast United, 1-1

The New England Mutiny (1-1-1 WPSL East-Northeast) drew 1-1 with Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) newcomer Seacoast United (0-2-1 WPSL East-Northeast) at Bill Ball Stadium at Exeter High School in Exeter, New Hampshire on Saturday. United took a first half lead, but the Mutiny scored an equalizer in the 75th minute to secure the tie.
In their only true scoring opportunity of the first half, the home side would convert as a free kick by Tricia Tufts from the left flank found Kendra Spencer. The Keene State midfielder beat New England keeper Jackie Fede to the ball and found the back of net in the 39th minute. The goal was Spencer’s first of the season.
New England went down to 10 players in the 50th minute of the match after a red card was issued to Meghan Cunningham.
Despite, being playing 10 against 11, New England continued to have the better of the opportunities in the second half and in the 65th minute, UConn's Danielle Dakin would send in a cross from the right flank which found Mary-Frances Monroe, but her diving header would be saved smartly by Seacoast goalkeeper Jen Nichols.
Ten minutes later, Sarah Brochu would score for the third consecutive match to start the 2010 season, after a Jenny Maurer cross from the right flank. The rising Southern Connecticut State freshman shed the defender, collected the ball and finished clinically low and inside the left post to cement the 1-1 draw.
Next up for New England is another road match this Wednesday, June 9th at the Connecticut Passion at 7:00 p.m. The Mutiny will make their home debut at Chicopee Comprehensive High School on Sunday, June 13th at 5:00 p.m. in a Northeast Division match vs. Seacoast United.
