The senior forward has the opportunity to become the first men's player to repeat as the Hermann Trophy winner since Virginia's Mike Fisher received the award in 1995 and 1996. Only three players have earned the Hermann in consecutive seasons: Fisher and Saint Louis University products Mike Seerey (1971-72) and Al Trost (1969-70).
White is one of three Connecticut players on the list, tying with Saint Louis and reigning champion Wake Forest for most players from the same school. Fellow seniors Akeem Priestley and Toni Stahl join White on the list of 48, which will be whittled down to 15 in Novemeber.
Four other schools have two players recognized including New England’s Central Connecticut State and Harvard. CCSU is represented by senior midfielder Yan Klukowski and senior defender David Tyrie while the Crimson placed the striker tandem of Andre Akpan (junior) and Micahel Fucito (senior) on the list.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is given annually to the nation’s best college soccer player, decided by Division I head coaches who are current members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The 15 semifinalists are announced in November, with three finalists announced in early December. Those three are then invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis in January where the winner is announced at a presentation banquet.
