Bobcats Win Seventh Straight
October 1, 2007
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women’s soccer team won its seventh straight game Sunday in a 2-0 win over Holy Cross.
Lauren Peacock lead the Bobcats (7-1) with a goal and an assist while Justine Lombardi netted what would be the game winner just 6:26 into the contest.
Holy Cross (2-8) was overmatched for most of the game, getting outshot, 20-5, and losing the corner kick battle, 8-1.
The Bobcats opened the scoring in the 7th minute on Lombardi’s first tally of the season. Peacock crossed the ball from the right side and Lombardi put the ball into the lower left corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead.
Quinnipiac’s Sara Lawlor hit the cross bar, narrowly missing on a bid for her fifth goal, less than 10 minutes into the game, and teammate Amber Sidoti was stopped by Holy Cross goalkeeper Mary Ferketic from point-blank range later in the first half.
The Bobcats scored an insurance goal in the 66th minute when Peacock poked home a shot during a scramble off Brittany Lockwood’s corner kick. Sidoti and Lockwood assisted Peacock’s team-best sixth goal.
Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) made seven saves, while Bobcat goalie Chloe Beizer stopped one shot to earn the win.
