Locals Earn Ivy League Awards
Dartmouth, Harvard Represented
October 23, 2007
Dartmouth junior forward Dani Rothenberg was named the Ivy League Men's Soccer Player of the Week and Harvard freshman Katherine Sheeleigh earned the Ivy League’s Rookie of the Week award for the women’s division.
Rothenberg scored both of Dartmouth’s goals in the Big Green's thrilling 2-1 win over Columbia to keep his team undefeated in Ivy play. His first came in the 22nd minute to give the Green an early 1-0 lead. After Columbia tied it up, he struck again with a goal in the 67th minute to seal the victory.
Meanwhile, Sheeleigh scored two goals for the Crimson in a 4-2 win over Princeton Saturday. She now leads the team with eight goals and 16 points. Her first goal came off a feed from junior Rachael Lau during the 17th minute. Lau’s clearing pass was handled by Sheeleigh who outraced her defenders and beat the goalkeeper. The freshman got her second goal after she took a shot that was knocked down by the keeper and the ball bounced straight back to her.
The strike in the 57th minute gave the Crimson a three-goal lead at the time.
Sheeleigh leads the Ivy League in shots (69) and game-winning goals (3).
This is the third time this season Sheeleigh has garnered league honors and the second time she has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
