Mutiny, SoccerPlus Have One Rep Each

July 17, 2008

A player from each of the top teams in the WPSL – SoccerPlus CT and New England Mutiny – made the league’s Team of the Week.

SoccerPlus midfielder Becky Ryan and Mutiny midfielder Janny Maurer each made the team based on their efforts last week.

Ryan had another two-goal game for the Reds, netting two strike against Adirondack. Ryan also had two goals in the Reds’ game against New York A.C. the week before. She is the second player to score at least two goals in consecutive games this season for SoccerPlus CT, joining Brooke Knowlton who accomplished the same feat against Massachusetts and Maine.

Maurer, meanwhile, was a one-woman show in a win over the Massachusetts Stingers, tallying a goal and an assist. The former Boston College captain could have had another goal when, only five minutes into the game, the Stingers goalkeeper denied made a fantastic save right on the goalline.

Maurer’s teammate, forward Erin Clark was an honorable mention, tallying two goals against the Stingers. Joining her was Chioma Igwe of SoccerPlus. The former Santa Clara star had a solid performance in the midfield with an assist in the win over Adirondack.
