Local Players Earn National Recognition

Two BC, One Vermont Player

November 23, 2007

Boston College goalkeeper Chris Brown and forward Sherron Manswell and Vermont forward Jordan Crasilneck were named to the Soccer America men’s soccer National Team of the Week.

Brown started all three ACC Tournament wins last week and recorded a 0.67 goals against average and a .818 save percentage. He allowed just two goals in three tournament games. This season, the 6-foot-5-inch goalie has started all 20 games and has registered a 15-4-1 overall record, eight shutouts, a 0.69 GAA and a .803 save percentage.

Manswell is a two-time Soccer America Player of the Week honoree who earned a spot on the current 11-man team after totaling seven points -- three goals and one assist -- en route to ACC Tournament MVP honors. Manswel recorded team highs in goals (11) and points (28) through 20 games this fall.

Brown and Manswell each earned All-ACC second-team honors in leading the Eagles to the 2007 ACC regular season and tournament title.

Crasilneck scored the lone goal in Vermont's 1-0 win at Binghamton last Saturday that captured the America East Championship for the Catamounts. The junior forward converted a feed from Tyler Hasman midway through the first half for his second goal of the season. Both of Crasilneck's goals were game-winners in matches against Binghamton, the conference tourney's top seed.

Crasilneck created several other scoring opportunities in the title game as UVM held off the Bearcats for the school's fourth America East men's soccer crown. He was one of four Catamounts named to the all-championship team.

Boston College has earned the NCAA Tournament's No. 1 overall seed and will face the winner of Friday's match between Boston University and Massachusetts on Nov. 28. at 7 p.m. Vermont (9-9-2) will play at Dartmouth this Saturday at 2:30pm at Burnham Field in Hanover, N.H. in the first round.
