All-Americans Feature Ivy League Pair
July 2, 2009 -- Harvard senior forward Andre Akpan and Dartmouth senior midfielder Craig Henderson have been named to the College Soccer News All-America first team. For Akpan, it is his second straight appearance on the team.
A two-time semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy, Akpan is Harvard’s all-time leading scorer with 97 points on 35 goals and 27 assists. During the 2008 season, Akpan amassed an Ivy League-best 26 points on 10 scores and six helpers.
For his effort last fall, Akpan was honored on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America first team for the second time. He is a three-time NSCAA All-Northeast Region first-team honoree and has garnered three unanimous All-Ivy League first-team nods over his career.

Soccer New England Spotlight
Kia McNeill is coming back to her alma mater.
The former Boston College defender and Connecticut native will join the Eagles’ women’s soccer program as an assistant this fall.
“I am really excited that I was presented with the opportunity to return to BC,’’ said McNeill.

This Month in New England Soccer History
- May 1995 - Then-UConn men's soccer coach Joe Morrone was one of five representatives of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America to travel to Washington, D.C. for public Congressional hearings on Title IX. Coaches were expressing concern about the elimination of three men's soccer programs in the south and midwest.
- May 17, 1999 - U.S. women's national team coach Tony DiCicco named two New England natives - Tracy Ducar of North Andover, Mass. and Kristine Lilly of Wilton, Conn. - to the Women's World Cup team. The Americans hosted and won the tournament, defeating China in a penalty kick shootout in the final. Ten years later, DiCicco is now coaching Lilly again, this time for the Boston Breakers in WPS.
- May 24, 2004 - Dean Conway, former state head coach for Massachusetts Youth Soccer, joined the New England Revolution as the head of its Revolution Academy, a program that provides training and education for local youths.
Youth News
The New England Premiership (NEP) has announced that the league will launch this fall. The membership for the league?s first season will include MPS Bulldogs/Renegades, Bruno United, MPS Crusaders/Lady Crusaders, Seacoast United, Soccer Domain and Seacoast Maine.
The NEP is a new club-based league for clubs throughout New England, focused on player development. Participation is limited to clubs with a demonstrated commitment to player development such as minimum licenses for coaches, minimum standards for facilities and a dedicated director of coaching...
