BU Downs Maine to Stay Unbeaten in Last Five
October 4, 2009
ORONO, Maine - Senior Emily Pallotta netted two goals and classmate Casey Brown and sophomore Jessica Luscinski potted one apiece to lead the Boston University women’s soccer team to a 4-2 win over Maine on Sunday.
The Terriers (7-4-2, 3-0-0 America East) extended their unbeaten streak to five games while delivering the Black Bears (4-4-2, 1-1-1) their first loss of the season.
After nearly an entire 45 minutes of scoreless action, Pallotta broke the deadlock with her second goal of the season after a scramble inside the 18-yard box. Early in the second half, Brown tacked on another goal off a pass from Taleen Dimirdjian in the 48th minute, and Pallotta made it a 3-0 game three minutes when she connected on Luscinski’s cross inside the box.
In the 53rd minute, Maine spoiled the shutout with Maddie Hill’s second goal of the season from a shot just outside the box, and it drew to within one, 3-2, when Hannah Breton unleashed a shot from the top of the box at 74:01.
BU put the game away in the 82nd minute when Adrienne Anderson sent in a cross to Luscinski for the sixth and final goal of the game. It was Anderson’s first collegiate point and Luscinski’s third goal of the season.
The Terriers’ defense held one of the nation’s leading scorers, Laura Martel, scoreless, after she had scored eight goals in nine games. Senior Janie Reilly made two stops in 90 minutes of action while BU outshot Maine, 15-12, and held a commanding 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.
