May 21, 2009
The Boston College women's soccer team will welcome six new players for the 2009 campaign, and TopDrawerSoccer.com has rated BCs recruiting class second in the ACC behind North Carolina.
The Eagles incoming class includes Kristen Mewis, Victoria DiMartino, Maddie Payne, Alicia Blose, Morgan Hiler and Jessica Petznick. According to TopDrawerSoccer.com, the signing of Kristen Mewis and Victoria DiMartino is the best tandem pickup of any program in the country.
Both Mewis and DiMartino played on the Under-17 World Cup team that earned a silver medal in 2008. Mewis, a native of Hanson, Mass., is ranked as the No. 1 recruit by TopDrawerSoccer.com. She was the recipient of the NSCAAs Girls Youth Player of the Year award in January of 2009.
DiMartino is ranked as the fourth-best recruit after earning the Silver Boot at the Under-17 World Cup last year. She is the younger sister of Boston College senior forward/midfielder Gina DiMartino.
Payne was named the San Jose Mercury News Player of the Year. She led her team in scoring as a junior and senior. She was a member of the Regional IV Pool in 2008 and played for the Region IV ODP Championship.
Blose played at Tamalpais High, which finished ranked No. 13 in the nation with a 20-1-2 record. She was the team MVP and Marin Independent Journal Player of the Year.
Hiler is a two-time All-Conference All-Star and 2008 All-District first team selection from South Bend, Ind. Hiler is the younger sister of former Boston College midfielder Caitlin Hiler.
Petznick was recently named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona. She is a four-year starter at Xavier Prep and helped her team capture the state championship in 2009.
