Keat kept up his stellar play in a 1-1 weekend for now No. 14-ranked Dartmouth at the San Diego Nike Classic, earning a spot on the all-tournament team. The midfielder scored two goals and an assist during a weekend in which the Big Green defeated San Diego and fell to No. 18 Loyola Marymount.

Keat provided a well-played assist on Craig Henderson’s game-winner in the 78th minute against San Diego. In the next game, he led the Dartmouth offense with two goals in a late comeback against LMU. Keat scored in both the 76th and 80th minutes to tie the game at 2-2, only to see Loyola sneak a third goal in two minutes later for the win.

After missing all of last year with an injury Keat already has six goals and 13 points just six games into the season.

UConn redshirt senior Brittany Taylor earned Big East Defensive Player of the Week honors following a 2-0 week for the Huskies.

Taylor anchored a backline that did not allow a goal in the two wins, playing every minute of both games. This is the second Defensive Player of the Week honor in Taylor’s career. She also earned the award on Oct. 15, 2007.

Quinnipiac University women’s soccer sophomore Furtuna Velaj was named the adidas/Northeast Conference Player of the Week after her performance at Siena and Rhode Island this past weekend. The forward put up seven points in the two games, recording two goals and one assist.

Against Siena on Sept. 18, Velaj netted her second goal of the season as she tied the game in the second half, 1-1. She picked up a rebound inside the scorer’s box and snapped a low shot into the right corner of the net. Minutes later, she assisted fellow sophomore Kristina Del Mistro to put the Bobcats up 2-1. Her free kick from outside the 18-yard box was tipped by Del Mistro for the score and Velaj’s third assist of the season.

The Bobcats traveled to the University of Rhode Island on Sept. 20, where Velaj scored both of Quinnipiac’s goals in the 2-2 tie. Her first came in the 50th minute of play to even the game at 1-1. Velaj collected her own rebound off the Rams’ goalkeeper and flicked it into the right side of the net for her third goal of the year. She struck again in the 78th minute on a breakaway, stopping 10 yards out to lob her shot over the keeper.

Velaj ranks first in the NEC in points (11), goals (4), and ranks third in assists (3).

Freshman midfielder Laura Muise of the Bentley University women’s soccer team has been named the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week. Muise scored the lone goal in Bentley’s 1-0 win over Pace last Saturday.

Muise’s 49th minute goal, the first of her career, put the Falcons in front for good. She took a cross from classmate Dovlyn Curtis in the box and headed the ball in to give Bentley a 1-0 advantage.

Muise is the third Falcon in two weeks to be honored by the NE-10. Last week, senior Cheryl Boyd and junior Kara Smith were named the NE-10 Player and Goalkeeper of the Week respectively.
