Women Dominate, Men Win in Double Overtime
Sept. 13, 2009
JOHNSON, Vt. -- The Johnson State womens soccer controlled action throughout the day en route to a 2-0 non-conference womens soccer victory over Southern Vermont College Saturday at Minaert Field. JSC enjoyed a 38-0 shot advantage on the day and a 9-0 corner kick edge in the win.
Freshman Ally Bataille (Waterbury, Vt.) put the Badgers (3-1) on top at the 43:54 mark, redirecting a Samantha Cutting (Rochester, Vt.) feed past SVC (0-4) keeper Amber Mulhern (Bennington, Vt.).
Cutting would tally her own goal midway through the second half on a nice crossing pass from freshman Jenny Samuelson (Melrose, Mass.) and beating Mulhern high for the eventual final score of 2-0.
Morgan Solomon (Cavendish, Vt.) did not need to make a stop for the win while Mulhern stopped 11 shots for the Mountaineers.
JSC men 2, Daniel Webster College 1 (2 OT)
Freshman Noor Bulle (Burlington, Vt.) scored the game-winning goal with 1:35 remaining in the second overtime to lift the Badgers over visiting non-conference foe Daniel Webster College Saturday at Minaert Field.
The win pushes Johnson State to 2-1 while the loss drops DWC to 0-2.
DWCs Alex Jackson scored the games first goal at the 7:43 mark taking a long pass from Andre Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) and beating JSC keeper Steve Noyes (Barre, Vt.) to his left to give Daniel Webster the early lead.
Bulle would score his first goal of the contest just minutes later at 11:38 of the first half collecting an Alex Komeyan (Essex, Vt.) feed and knock it home past the Eagles Joe Keene (Bristol, N.H.) to knot the game at 1-1.
The teams would battle back and forth over the next 89 minutes of play, with Daniel Webster holding a 20-19 shot lead until Bulles late heroics. Bulle maintained balance and collected a bounding ball between two DWC defenders, pushed the ball into open space and, one-on-one with Keene, deposited the game-winner to the left corner of the goal to lift the Badgers to the victory.
Noyes, in his first collegiate start, made six saves to earn the win for Johnson State while Keene made five stops for Daniel Webster. Both keepers made outstanding, game-saving stops during both overtime sessions.
