Jay Heaps to become new Revs head coach

by Eric Slack
November 14th, 2011

The Boston Globe is reporting that former Revs defender and current color commentator Jay Heaps is to be named the next Revolution head coach at a press conference on Tuesday. Heaps had a solid 10-year MLS career after a stellar college career at Duke. The Longmeadow High School graduate also earned four caps with the US National Team.

He has no coaching experience but a wealth of knowledge of MLS and the Revs. Many people are going to pick this choice apart, and rightfully so. There are undoubtedly more qualified candidates available. But Heaps is a good guy with a recognizable name in New England soccer, and he has a passion for the sport in this region. Expectations are going to be low for an immediate turnaround of the Revs on field product, and should the move work out, Heaps will get a lot of the credit. But should the move fail, it would ultimately force the Kraft family to make massive changes within the Revolution from top to bottom.
