The Revs' Edgaras Jankauskas won MLS Goal of the Week honors. (Chris Aduama/ADUAMA.com) |
With the Revolution trailing by two goals and playing with 10 men following an early red card to Shalrie Joseph, Jankauskas capitalized on a half clearance from the Wizards defense and unleashed a dipping volley into the upper left corner from 25 yards out.
The goal was the second in six MLS appearances for Jankauskas, who joined the Revs in July.
Jankauskas’ Goal of the Week nod is the 13th in club history and the second consecutive weekly award for the Revolution after midfielder Wells Thompson earned top honors last week. This marks the first time in club history that the Revs have won back-to-back Goal of the Week awards.
In 2004, the award’s inaugural season, Steve Ralston won twice (Wks. 15 and 29) and Joe Franchino once (Wk. 5). In 2005, Taylor Twellman won twice (Wks. 1 and 24) and Clint Dempsey once (Wk. 5), while Dempsey also won the award in Week 28 of 2006. In 2007, Twellman took home Goal of the Week honors in Weeks 4 and 24, while Sainey Nyassi won the honors in 2008’s Week 1 and 2009’s Week 3.

The Revolution, currently locked in a four-way tie for the final two spots in the MLS Cup Playoffs with eight games remaining, returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 13, when the club visits Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center.
