The Crusaders are now 1-1-1 on the season, while the Friars are 2-0-1.
With less than 12 minutes left in the first half, at the 33:16 mark, the Friars' Tim Ritter took control of the ball after a corner kick into the Holy Cross goalie box by Alex Redding. After his first attempt at the goal ricocheted off the right goal post, Ritter kicked his own rebound into the right corner of the net, giving Providence a 1-0 lead.
A strong start by the Crusaders to begin the second half set up several scoring opportunities as senior midfielder Andreas Andrews and sophomore forward Kyle Miller each had chances to even the score.
Closing in on the final minutes of regulation, a fight for possession in Providence territory ended with Wilhelm heading the ball into the net, tying the game at 1-1.
Both teams ferociously continued play into overtime, including senior Jerry Dickinson who drove the ball down the field with 20 seconds winding down in the first regulation, but came up short when his shot hit the right goal post.
Junior Thomas Booth made one save for Holy Cross, while the Friars' Timothy Murray had five stops.
