Joining Akpan on the First Team was Newton, Conn. native Marcus Tracy of Wake Forest, which placed a high of five players on the team.
Five other schools placed two players on the team: Akron, Creighton, Harvard, Illinois-Chicago, Loyola (Md.) and Cal-Davis.
In addition to Fucito, Boston College’s Alejandro Bedoya also was named to the Second Team. Locals on the Third Team include midfielder Craig Henderson of Dartmouth, forward Graciano Brito out of Quinnipiac and UConn striker O’Brian White.
Eleven players earned All-America recognition for the second time, including Akpan, Bedoya, Brito, Fucito and White.
The All-America selections are invited to be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, to be held in St. Louis, Mo., on Jan. 17, as part of the 2009 NSCAA Convention.
