Gillette Stadium will host two Gold Cup first-round matches on July 11.

Gillette Stadium has been chosen as one of a record 13 locations for the biennial event which serves as the regional soccer championship. The tournament kicks off on July 3 in Los Angeles at The Home Depot Center and concludes on Sunday, July 26, at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

On July 11, the New England Revolution will start a full day of soccer action at 4 p.m. The Revs will host the Kansas City Wizards in the first of the three games. The two Gold Cup first-round matches will follow.

The 2009 Gold Cup marks the fourth time that Foxboro, and specifically Gillette Stadium, has hosted Gold Cup matches. In 2003, Gillette Stadium hosted three first-round dates before hosting first-round and quarterfinal matches in both 2005 and 2007.

The tournament will use the same format as in 2005 and 2007, with the 12-team field divided into three, four-team groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals along with the two best third-place teams.

The 12 teams that have qualified for the 2009 Gold Cup are: Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and the U.S. The three first-round groupings and full match schedule will be announced at a later date.

For the first time in CONCACAF Gold Cup history, matches will be played on state-of-the-art, latest generation FieldTurf surfaces in stadiums that are already so equipped, including Gillette Stadium.
