Futsal Coming to Forekicks II
Indoor Soccer Without Boards in New Marlboro Facility
October 15, 2008
Soccer players looking for the feel of regular soccer in the cold months of winter need look no further than the new Forekicks facility in Marlboro, Massachusetts.
That’s because futsal, the only indoor soccer endorsed by FIFA, played without boards and popularized by the likes of Pele and Ronaldo, is coming to the new Forekicks 2 starting this Novemeber.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for players to compete and train in world class facilities, right here in Massachusetts," said Bill Sampaio, a Tiverton, Rhode Island native and President of New England Futsal.
Sampaio oversees several futsal programs based in New England and is the National Director of Coaching for US Futsal, a position he has held since 2004.
"The sport is growing exponentially, in our area of the country", Sampaio said. "Players are improving their foot skills, their ball control, their passing skills and are developing quick thinking on the pitch, all because of this small sided indoor game.”
The collaboration between Forekicks 2 and New England Futsal will begin with three separate programs this year, including academy training on Monday nights, a men's open tournament on Sunday mornings and a youth league on Sunday afternoons.
This November, New England Futsal Academy programs start for players from the age of U6 through U14 on Monday nights. Training will be directed by Sampaio and his staff.
The United Futsal League's Copa Latina Men's Tournament will be run at Forekicks 2 starting Nov. 23 and, in January, New England Futsal will host a youth league that will begin games in the Suffolk County Futsal League.
