Johansson Named to W-League Team of the Week

Franklin Pierce University junior All-American Angelika Johansson was named to the W-League �Team of the Week� as announced by the United Soccer Leagues (USL).

Johansson, who earned the award for the second week in a row, scored a goal and recorded two assists in the Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues� 4-2 win over the Washington Freedom on Sunday. Johansson�s first goal tied the game at 1-1 in the 30th minute for the Lady Blues and her first assist came on what would be the match-winning goal two minutes into the second half.

Johansson leads Hudson Valley in both goals and assists through its first three games of the season. She broke out with four goals in a 6-0 win over the New York Magic on May 23rd to earn her first W-League �Team of the Week" honors.

Johansson has scored the Lady Blues� opening goal in all three matches so far this season. She has netted six goals on just seven shots and added two assists while playing in every minute of each of Hudson Valley�s three matches.

Hudson Valley is 3-0 so far this season and return to action Saturday when it hosts the Boston Renegades at Newburgh Free Academy at 7 p.m. Johansson and the Lady Blues will be in New England on Wednesday, June 17, when it visits Harvard Stadium to face the Renegades at 4 p.m.

The two-time Franklin Pierce All-American will return for her junior season for the Ravens after recording 40 goals and ten assists for 90 points over her first two collegiate seasons. Johansson�s 40 career goals are 11th best in program history. She earned Daktronics East Region and Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year honors after posting an NCAA Division II best 29 goals to go with five assists for a conference-leading 63 points.

Johansson racked up five hat tricks and netted a conference best eight match-winning goals for the Ravens last fall. Johansson also earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team honors having achieved a 3.969 cumulative grade point average.
