Franklin Pierce Forfeits Game
Ravens Docked for Ineligible Player in Wednesday Game
November 8, 2008
RINDGE, N.H. – The Northeast-10 Conference has informed Franklin Pierce University that it must forfeit its advancement from the semifinal round of the NE-10 men’s soccer tournament for inadvertent use of an ineligible player in Wednesday’s match at Southern New Hampshire University.
Third-seeded Franklin Pierce earned a 0-0 double-overtime draw with second-seeded and No. 13-ranked Southern New Hampshire and had advanced to Saturday’s NE-10 Championship with a 4-3 decision in the penalty kick shootout. Under NCAA rule, the match still goes on the record as a tie and does not impact on Franklin Pierce’s overall record (12-7-2).
The Northeast-10 has issued the following statement on the matter and has no further comment on the announcement:
“Southern New Hampshire University and Le Moyne College will play tomorrow for the Northeast-10 Conference's Men's Soccer Championship.
Franklin Pierce's inadvertent use of an ineligible player in the November 5 semifinal match against SNHU has resulted in Southern New Hampshire advancing to tomorrow's final.
Game time for tomorrow's match is 3pm at Larkin Field on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester.”
Franklin Pierce has accepted the decision and regrets the oversight in which the men’s soccer team used a student-athlete that was ineligible for this particular match.
Franklin Pierce now awaits word on a potential NCAA Tournament berth when bids are announced on Monday night.
