Fairfield Wins Third Straight

Take Down Seton Hall 2-0

September 8, 2008

The Fairfield University women’s soccer team earned its third consecutive win, defeating visiting Seton Hall University 2-0 on Lessing Field Sunday evening.

The Stags improve to 3-1 overall, while the Pirates drop to 2-2 on the year.

“We had incentive to come out to a quick start playing Seton Hall, a member of the Big East Conference,” said fourth-year Fairfield coach Jim O’Brien. “This is our first of four games in seven days, and it was great to start the week on a positive note.”

Both teams traded scoring opportunities in the first portion of the game, including a pair of point-blank chances for the Pirates in the first minute of play.

Ahna Johnson (Hamden, Conn.) broke the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute, with her first game-winning goal of the season. She headed home the ball to the near post, netting a cross from Casey Frobey (Sandy Hook, Conn.).

Just over eight minutes later the Stags netted an insurance goal on freshman Jasmin Corniel’s first collegiate goal.

Stags goalkeeper Kelly Boudreau (Farmington, Conn.) earned her first collegiate clean sheet, posting six saves in the game, three in each half. Fairfield’s team defense was strong, pushing aside several free kick chances of Seton Hall throughout the game, including three in the final quarter of the game.

Seton Hall’s Elizabeth Bond made three saves, while allowing two goals, in playing the full 90 minutes in net.
