Ahna Johnson (Hamden, Conn.) earned Tournament MVP honors as she tallied all three goals in the Stags victory on Sunday. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Robyn Decker (Chester, Conn.), Adrienne Boyer (Somers, Conn.), and Kelly Boudreau (Farmington, Conn.).
Johnson tallied her seventh game-winning goal of the year in the 37th minute, heading in a corner kick from the foot of Nicole Cavallaro. She would use her head again in the 66th minute, diving to a ball from the foot of Boyer and putting it home.
The final goal came just under four minutes later. Boyer played a ball from the far side into the box, which Jasmin Corniel flicked to the near post for Johnson, who knocked it home.
The Fairfield defense was solid once again posting its second shutout of the tournament. Boudreau made seven saves on the afternoon, with six coming in the second half of play.
The Stags are 3-1-3 against Loyola all-time in MAAC Championship finals, winning each of the three ties in penalty kicks.
The Stags advance to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in program history and for the first time since 2005. The selection show announcing the pairings and sites of the first and second round will air on Monday, Nov. 10 between 8-8:30 p.m. on ESPNews.
