Fairfield Players Recognized
Women Snare Offensive and Rookie Weeklies
November 4, 2008
Fairfield University women’s soccer players Ahna Johnson and Jasmin Corniel were recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Monday, earning Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week accolades, respectively.
Johnson, a Hamden (Conn.) High School graduate, notched three goals in the Stags 2-0 week, including the game-winning tally in both games. She scored two goals in the Senior Day win over Manhattan on Sunday, her third multi-goal game of the season.
Over the last there games, all Fairfield wins, she has 10 points, with four goals. She is the team leader in points, 28, and goals, with 12. Her two game-winning goals this weekend gave her six for the season, and nine for her career, which moves her to fourth in program history.
Corniel had three points in the Stags two victories, with a goal and an assist. With the Stags trailing Manhattan 1-0 on Sunday, she came off the bench and provided the equalizing goal with a strong individual effort. She collected the ball just inside the sideline, dribbled around and past several defenders along the top of the box, until she reached just past midfield. There she turned back to the near post and put the ball along the ground inside the post and past the keeper.
