Fairfield Inks Three Women

Stags Sign Connecticut Native

March 2, 2009

Fairfield women’s soccer announced the signings of three players, including Newtown (Conn.) High School senior Kasey Schulz.

Schulz will join Rachel Madacsi (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Nikki Stanton (North Bend, Wash.) to play under head coach Jim O’Brien.

“Although our program has lost a very talented group of seniors in 2009, in their place we have three incoming freshmen who will have an immediate impact with our program,” said O’Brien. “The trio have strong soccer resume's at the high school, club, and regional level.”

Madacsi, who is attending Sacred Heart Academy, is slotted to play in the midfield for the Stags over the course of her career. She has been a Region I ODP pool player and is a member of the Rockville Center Tornados club team. Madasci earned four varsity letters for coach Penny Stansfield’s Lady Spartans, leading them to a 59-13-3 record during her career. A captain her senior season, Madasci helped Sacred Heart to the second state championship in her career, earning Fourth Team All-State.

“I have watched Rachel develop in to one of the top central mid-field players in our region,” said O’Brien. “Her ability to control the mid-field with speed, athleticism, and technical ability, will be a real plus to our attack minded team.”

Schulz is completing her scholastic career at Newtown High School and is expected to see time as a forward for the Stags. She played for O’Brien as a member of the CFC United and is a Region I ODP pool player. Under coach Marc Kenney, a former assistant of O’Brien’s at Southern Connecticut, Schulz earned four varsity letters at Netown and served as a team captain. Schulz is a two-time All-State and All-New England, scoring 70 goals over the course of her career, with 17 coming as a senior.

“Having coached Kasey at the club and state level,” said O’Brien, “I have witnessed tremendous growth in her overall play. She will add another weapon in our already dangerous attack.”

Stanton is completing her senior year at Mount Si and is slated to compete for playing time in the midfield during her Fairfield career. She earned four varsity letters for coach Darren Brown’s Wildcats, being named First Team All-State with 12 goals and seven assists. She helped her team to 46 wins over the course of her career, tallying 26 goals and 34 assists, and advancing to the state tournament round of 16, or beyond, three times.

“Nicole comes to us from one of the most respected premier programs on the West Coast, Crossfire Premier,” said O’Brien, “She will provide a very strong midfield presence that will complement our team and its style of play.”

Fairfield is coming off of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament Title in 2008 and its second NCAA Tournament in four years. The Stags went 15-5-3 this past season, the most wins in a year since the 1997 and 1998 squads each won a school record 18 games.
