Eight Locals Heading to MLS Combine

Camp Held Right Before League's Draft

Seven players from area colleges and universities and another Massachusetts native were among the 54 players invited to the 2008 adidas MLS Player Combine, set to be held Jan. 11-15 at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Defenders Matthew Britner (Brown) and Julius James (UConn), midfielders Geoff Cameron (URI) and Ryan Maduro (Providence), and forwards Ryan Cordeiro (UConn), Sherron Manswell (Boston College) and Lukasz Tumicz (URI) were all invited to the combine, which concludes three days before the Jan. 18 MLS SuperDraft. Duke midfielder Michael Videira, of Milford, Mass., also will be attending.

Also, BC coach and NSCAA and ACC Coach of the Year Ed Kelly is one of four coaches running the combine. He's joined by Duke assistant Mike Jefferies, Denver coach Bobby Muss and Northwestern head man Tim Lenahan.
