March 20, 2009

New England Aztec has announced that former US national team goalkeeper Jeff Duback has joined the clubs staff.

Duback will work with the Boston Aztec Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) team and with the New England Aztec youth team keepers.

A native of San Diego, Duback played for the San Diego Nomads youth club before attending Yale University, where he played on the men's soccer team in 1982. He spent the 1983 season with the U.S. U-20 national team, starting for the team as it qualified for the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship in Mexico.

Duback subsequently returned to Yale, remaining with the team through 1986. He holds several Yale records, including season goals against average (0.31 in 1986), career GAA (0.82), season shutouts (11) and career shutouts (25). He was named an All-American in 1984 and 1986 and the ISAA Goalkeeper of the Year in 1986.

As a professional, Duback played with the Nomads senior team in the Western Soccer Alliance (WSA) in 1986, the Boston Bolts of the American Soccer League (ASL) in 1988, and the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the American Professional Soccer League (APSL) in 1993.

In 1995, Duback signed with Major League Soccer in preparations for the first MLS season in 1996. The league listed him as a member of the USISL's Charlotte Eagles and, in the end, he never signed with any MLS team.

In international soccer, Duback earned his first cap with the senior US national team in 1987, becoming only one of four US keepers to keep a clean sheet in their debut. In all, Duback was capped four times by the US team. He was also a member of the 1988 US Olympic team.
