Dorman Won't Return To Revs

Former Rev Pierce Waived by Crew

November 27, 2007

New England Revolution midfielder Andy Dorman will not return to the team next year, instead opting to pursue playing opportunities in his homeland of England.

The former Boston University standout couldn’t come to terms on an MLS pact to stay with the Revs.
Andy Dorman will not be returning to the Revolution next season.

"I would have loved to have stayed with the Revs -- I was happy there -- but financially it was never really an option," Dorman told MLSnet.com staffer and Soccer New England columnist Andrew Hush. "The numbers that were talked about were nowhere near what I thought I deserved. Once that developed I realized I had to figure something else out."

A sixth-round draft pick out of BU, Dorman played four years with the Revolution, never playing any better than the first half of this season, when the Chester, England native, playing in an attacking midfield role, scored his seventh goal by July 14.

However, Dorman’s season went downhill ever since he was left of the MLS All-Star First IX by Revs’ coach Steve Nicol. His play – and minutes – slowly diminished throughout the year and he finished the season stuck on seven goals and the Revolution’s bench.

He didn’t play in the playoffs either, save for a brief cameo as a substitute in the MLS Cup in what will go down as his last appearance in a New England uniform.

"I was a low draft pick coming out of BU and nobody really expected anything from me," Dorman told MLSnet.com. "I didn't really know what to expect back then myself but I didn't think I would ever play four years. I have always wanted to play back in England having grown up there and it is a dream to play in front of my family and friends so I am looking forward to that.”

In other MLS news, former Revs’ defender Rusty Pierce was waived by Columbus. The Crew chose not to pick up the options of Pierce ($63,000), Jacob Thomas ($84,000), Andy Herron ($140,000) and Bill Gaudette ($30,000). All must now pass through a waiver draft before they can re-negotiate with Columbus or sign somewhere else.
