Though Dorman was born northwest of England and raised in Wales, he has played all of his soccer since his school days in the U.S., first at Boston University and then with the Revs. But now, back in Britain, he seems to be taking to the Scottish game like a fish to water. The Saints have had their share of injury woes this season, especially in their midfield, and they welcomed him immediately into the starting 11.
In his first match for the Saints, Dorman adjusted well, assisting on the first goal in a 3-1 win over Motherwell, the surprise third-place team in the league this season. But it was the Feb. 13 Scottish Cup match with Dundee United that really solidified the former BU Terrier's place on the team. After a slow and scoreless first half, he broke the stalemate with a lovely goal just three minutes into the second frame.
Dorman's strike turned out to be the lone goal of the match, and booked St. Mirren a spot in the quarterfinals of the cup for the third time in four seasons.
The club currently sits third to last in the league, and so a cup run may be the best hope to put a positive shine on a rough year. The Saints last won the cup in 1987, but Dorman for one believes they could make another run at it, telling reporters after the win that "anyone can win it and I know we have to do all we can to try to get into the final to give ourselves a chance."
