Earthquakes Get To Select 10 Players

Andy Dorman was one of the 15 players left exposed by the Revs in Wednesday's expansion draft.

Starting back Avery John and midfielder Andy Dorman were among the 15 players left unprotected by the Revolution in anticipation of Wednesday’s expansion draft.

Joe Franchino, James Riley and Marshall Leonard were other notable Revs lefts exposed to the new San Jose Earthquakes, the 14th team to join Major League Soccer.

The 10-round draft allows the Earthquakes to select one player from 10 of the 13 MLS clubs. Each team can only protect 11 players, including those on its developmental roster.

The MLS Champion Houston Dynamo left three players unprotected, including Goalkeeper of the Year finalist Pat Onstad and starting defender Ryan Cochrane. The Dynamo, who beat the Revs’ 2-1 in Sunday’s MLS Cup, made Onstad, Cochrane and back Craig Waibel available to San Jose coach Frank Yallop.

Other notables players left exposed Tuesday: Kansas City goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, FC Dallas' designated player Denilson, and the LA Galaxy’s Peter Vagenas, Kyle Martino, Abel Xavier and recently acquired Clint Mathis.
