Dorman Continues To Deliver

Former Rev Stays Hot With New Club

Andy Dorman’s move from the Revolution to Scottish Premier League strugglers St. Mirren keeps looking better and better, as the English-born midfielder continues to pour in the goals for his new side.

He now has three goals in 10 matches for the Buddies, two of which have played a vital role in keeping the team alive in the Scottish Cup.

Former Rev and BU midfielder Andy Dorman is doing quite well with his new club, St. Mirren.

His first goal for St. Mirren came in the Cup’s round of 16 against Dundee United, breaking the deadlock just after halftime and scoring what would end up being the only goal of the match to move on to the quarters. Then, two weeks later, he cemented his place not only in Buddies’ hearts but in the bitter memories of United fans as well, scoring a late equalizer that secured a 1-1 draw and an important league point.

St. Mirren now sits in second to last place in the SPL, but with a healthy 11-point lead over last-place Gretna, who have sat in the league’s single relegation spot all season.

In Saturday’s Cup quarterfinal with St. Johnstone, the Buddies found themselves in a similar position, needing a late goal to equalize and survive. St. Johnstone keeper Alan Main was hardly tested all match, as the ball sat a comfortable distance from his goal for over 70 minutes. With one of the first real chances of the match for St. Mirren, Dorman took hold of a flick from striker Craig Dargo’s head, and chipped in the equalizer in the 73rd minute.

Not surprisingly, there are all sorts of accolades coming Dorman’s way after his fine run of form. Manager Gus McPherson gushed about his timing and efficiency to the BBC after the match, saying, “He’s that kind of a midfield player, times his runs ever so well, and finishes.”

Dorman for one sees no let up in the pressure when the match returns to St. Mirren’s home park at Love Street.

“We’ll have another tough task in the next game, and we’re just happy our names were in the hat for the semifinals,” Dorman said after the match.

With the semifinal draw also taking place Saturday, the Buddies know that there will be no rest on the way to a possible repeat of their 1987 Scottish Cup victory. If they get past St. Johnstone in the replay, they might well face SPL leaders Rangers in the semi.
