Davies, a halftime substitute, scored his first in the 59th minute to bring Sochaux within a goal, 2-1. Off a cross from the right from French teammate Marvin Martin, Davies trapped the ball at the edge of the six-yard box with his back to goal, turned and snuck a left-footed effort just under the hand of Bordeaux keeper Cedric Carrasso.
Bordeaux, the defending Ligue 1 champions, ultimately got the three points, led by a brace from striker Marouane Chamakh. But Davies got into the scoresheet one more time in the second minute of injury time, poking in a loose ball off a corner.
Davies has appeared in both of Sochaux’s matches as a substitute this season. The club’s next match is on the road Saturday against Montpellier.
The former Boston College star has seen his stock rise in a short period of time this summer. After a solid performance in the Confederations Cup – including the Americans’ opening goal in a pivotal 3-0 win over Egypt in their final group stage game – Davies transferred to Sochaux from Swedish club Hammarby.
Davies, 23, scored the Americans’ only goal in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Mexico in a World Cup qualifier.
