July 22, 2008
The Boston Renegades and Cape Cod Crusaders begin their quest for a championship this week as their W-League and Premier Development League playoff games kick off Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
The 19-team PDL playoff field starts Tuesday and the W-League’s 13-team postseason field stars Wednesday with divisional rounds and continues with the Conference Championship tournaments on the weekend.
The Renegades open divisional play when they travel to Long Island Wednesday to take on the Rough Riders at 7:00 p.m. while the Crusaders begin Friday with a game at Brooklyn (5:30 p.m.).
The winner of the Renegades’ match will earn the right to take on the 2007 W-League finalist Silverbacks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, which will be hosted by Atlanta. The defending league champion Washington Freedom will take on the Charlotte Lady Eagles in the other semifinal.
The PDL Eastern Conference tournament will be hosted by top seed Reading, who face wild card Newark in the semifinals. The four conference champions advance to the PDL Semifinals the following weekend for the right to play for the league title on August 9.
