Crusaders Pounce on Fury
Cape Cod Takes 4-1 Win
June 24, 2008
The Cape Cod Crusaders continued to stretch their lead at the top of the New England Division of the PDL Eastern Conference with an emphatic 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Fury Sunday.
Two second half goals from Chris Wright, sandwiched between strikes from Liam Maloney and Matt Narode gave the Crusaders their second victory in a week.
"Today was all about getting a win and, although we have played better this season, we are delighted to walk away with three points," said Crusaders coach Paul Baber.
The Crusaders got off to the perfect start in the contest when Maloney headed home a Joel Theissen corner in the 17th minute of play.
University of New Mexico forward Wright came alive in the 71st minute as he slammed home the Crusaders second goal from the middle of the penalty box. The tall forward then notched his own personal second goal as put the finishing touches to a tremendous run and cross from Edens Chery to put the home side up 3-0.
The visiting Fury grabbed a late consolation from William Beauge but Matt Narode quickly restored the three goal advantage as he slammed home from close range in stoppage time.
"Although the four goals somewhat flattered our performance, we still created many chances in the game" said Baber. "We can now look forward to a very challenging weekend road trip where we will face Richmond Kickers Future and Fredericksburg Gunners."
The Crusaders return home on Saturday 12th July when they will again face the Ottawa Fury at Bowditch Stadium, Framingham.
