Revs Release List of Unprotected Players in Expansion Draft

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution today traded forward Adam Cristman to the Kansas City Wizards Monday in exchange for allocation money and the Wizards’ third-round pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.

The trade was completed within this morning’s three-hour trading window ahead of the teams’ 3 p.m. deadline to submit their 11-man protected lists for Wednesday’s Expansion Draft, in which Seattle Sounders FC will chose 10 players from other teams to begin stocking its roster.

The Revs left available 16 players for the Sounders, headlined by veterans Khano Smith and Pat Phelan, young midfielder Wells Thompson and backup goalkeeper Doug Warren.

A numbers crunch may have forced Cristman, 23, out the door. The Virginia native was originally selected by the Revolution in the fourth round (48th overall) of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft out of Virginia. In 46 career games, he scored 10 goals and added five assists. He was one of three finalists for the league’s 2007 rookie of the year award.

He scored six goals in 18 appearances in 2008, before missing the final three months of the season after undergoing season-ending surgery on his toe.

With the trade, the Revolution now have seven selections at the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, including two picks in the first round, two in the second and two in the third.

All trading in the league is no halted until the conclusion of the expansion draft. Seattle may not claim more than one player from any given team in MLS, and four teams will not have a player taken in the expansion draft.

Teams may protect 11 players between their Senior and their Developmental Roster. Players on a team’s Developmental Roster, other than Generation adidas players who have not been graduated at the end of the 2008 season, may be left unprotected and are eligible may be selected by Seattle in the expansion draft.
