Comets Shoot Past Pioneers
Western Mass. Continues Rough Start to Year
June 2, 2008
An early goal from Therese Smith would be the highlight of the day for the Western Mass. Lady Pioneers, who continued their tough start to the 2008 season in a 5-1 loss.
The club went on to surrender five unanswered goals after Smith’s 9th-miunte strike in a defeat to the Laval Comets Sunday in W-League play. The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-4 on the year.
After Smith’s penalty kick strike gave them the 1-0 lead, the Pioneers gave up two first-half goals, including a back-breaking goal from Emilie Mercier in the 45th minute.
Western Mass. went on to cede three more tallies in the second frame, including one own goal.
The Lady Pioneers next game is Saturday at the Ottawa Fury.
