UConn's Castillo Honored
UConn Junior Oscar Castillo has been named Big East Defensive Player of the Week after making his second and third career starts of the season, and helping the Huskies to a pair of shutout wins over Hofstra (2-0) and Big East rival Georgetown (1-0).
Despite Hofstra’s 15 shots, UConn and Castillo managed to hold the Pride scoreless in the Sept. 12 home game. Castillo then helped the Connecticut defense limit Georgetown to just one shot in the overtime victory on Sept. 15.
This is the third time out of three this season that the Huskies have won Player of the Week honors. Conference and team leading scorer O'Brian White of Scarborough, ON was named the Offensive Player of the Week each of the first two weeks of the season.
The Huskies have now extended their season-opening winning streak to six games. They are one of only twelve teams in the nation with 100% records. One of the others, South Florida, is the Huskies’ next opponent. The two teams meet in Tampa, FL on Friday, September 21.
