Cape Cod Ousts Phantoms
Stays in First with 2-0 Victory
July 9, 2008
The Cape Cod Crusaders scored twice in the second half to defeat the New Hampshire Phantoms, 2-0, in a Premier Development League showdown Tuesday.
The Crusaders (8-3-3) maintained their hold of first place, despite a slightly rocky first half that saw them outshot, 9-7.
Still, the Phantoms (3-6-4) couldn’t get on the scoreboard, and the Crusaders took advantage, applying tremendous pressure on the Phantoms who seemed to be struggling to get their composure in the second half.
Cape Cod’s Jason Masse gave the Crusaders the lead with a goal in the 73rd minute. Just five minutes later, substitute Matt Horth buried a header past New Hampshire goalkeeper Tim Murray for a 2-0 lead.
“It has been a struggle,” said Phantoms’ coach Jim DeDeus. “But we are hopeful to end our season on a good note and are going to play our last games with the intent to win.”
