CCSU Gets First NEC Win
Early Goal Holds Up in Win over St. Francis
November 1, 2008
A Robert Cavener header in the seventh minute gave Central Connecticut State its first conference victory of the season, 1-0 win over St. Francis (PA) in NEC men’s soccer action Friday.
The midfielder put in a header off of a cross from junior Hadji Diop only seven minutes in and the Blue Devils stayed tight defensively to improve to 7-6-2 on the year, but just 1-4-1 in the Northeast Conference. The loss dropped the Red Flash to 4-10-2, 1-5-1 in the conference.
Cavener came close to scoring three minutes earlier but hit header from senior Yan Klukowski's corner kick was stopped. In the half, CCSU totaled 10 shots compared to three for St. Francis.
CCSU outshot the Red Flash 17-8 for the game and tallied four corner kicks to St. Francis's three. Paul Armstrong and Brad Williams each recorded four saves in the match.
The Blue Devils will next travel to Robert Morris Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. game.
