Brown grieves after loss of longtime coach
February 28, 2011
The New England soccer community mourns along with the Brown University women's soccer team after the body of longtime women's soccer assistant coach Denis Chartier was found last Saturday inside his parked car in a commuter parking lot in Griswold, Conn. Chartier was 56.
For 16 seasons, Chartier was a staple of the Brown women's soccer scene. "He will be remembered for his commitment to coaching and for his many contributions to soccer, athletics and campus life," wrote Margaret Klawunn, vice president for campus life and student services, in an e-mail to the Brown University family.
Chartier had been missing since February 6. The discovery of his body brings an end to this difficult chapter in the program's history.
