Brown Grounds Eagles
No. 14 Bears Upset No. 5 BC
October 11, 2007
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In took 93 minutes of soccer to decide a game between the nation’s 14th- and 5th- best teams, but in the end it was Laurent Manual who gave No. 14 Brown a 1-0 overtime victory over 5th-ranked Boston College Wednesday.
Brown's Dylan Sheehan started the winning play when he received a long feed within the 18-yard box with his back to the net before making a touch pass away from the goal to Manuel, who blasted a low right-footed shot from 22 yards out that deflected past BC junior goalkeeper Chris Brown.
The win improved Brown to 8-1-1 on the year and snapped BC’s seven game unbeaten streak while dropping them to 7-2-1.
The Bears outshot the Eagles, 16-10, including a 7-2 edge in the game's first 45 minutes.
BC’s Brown recorded four saves and suffered just his second defeat of the season. Fellow Eagle Alejandro Bedoya, the ACC's scoring leader, took a team-high three shots. He had a chance with 25 minutes left in the game when he fired a left-footed shot that Bears' goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand made a great save on. It was one of Grandstrand’s three saves on the evening.
