Brito Leads Quinnipiac to Victory

Bobcats Even Record in Northeast Conference

October 20, 2008

HAMDEN, Conn. – Graciano Brito scored a goal and recorded an assist and Freddy Hall earned his fourth shutout in the Quinnipiac University men’s soccer 2-0 victory over Sacred Heart Sunday.

Durval Pereira’s (Cheshire, Conn.) fourth goal of the season gave the Bobcats a 1-0 in the 10th minute. Brito put a through ball behind two Sacred Heart defenders to a streaking Pereira. The freshman forward picked up the ball and slipped it under Sacred Heart’s Matt Jones from the top of the 18-yard box. The assist was Brito’s first of the season.

Quinnipiac’s Freddy Hall kept the Pioneers off the board during a two-minute span in the first half in which Sacred Heart had six corner kicks. Hall punched the ball away from danger on three of those corners, rising above the crowd in front of the net to get a hand on the pass attempt.

Hall made another save on a free kick eight minutes into the second by the Pioneers’ Matthew Mones. Mones put the ball high into the box from 35 yards out. Hall again elevated and swatted it away with his left hand.

Brito scored his 12th goal of the season in the 87th minute to give the Bobcats a two-goal advantage. Johan Karlhagen fed Brito on the left side of the field where the senior midfielder picked up the ball before deking a Pioneer defender just inside the box. Jones moved out to play the ball, but Brito slid it under the diving Sacred Heart goalkeeper for the goal.

Hall earned his fourth shutout of the season stopping three Pioneer shots. Sacred Heart’s Jones stopped three shots in the loss.

The Bobcats record improves to 7-4-2 overall and 2-2 in Northeast Conference play. The loss dropped the Pioneers to 3-6-1 overall and 1-2 in the NEC.
