Laurel Peak Earns Ivy League POTW

October 21, 2008

PRINCETON, N.J. ¬ Dartmouth women's soccer senior goalkeeper Laurel Peak earned the Ivy League Player of the Week for her role in two shutout wins.

It is the first such award for the Redding, Connecticut native. The senior co-captain had one of the biggest weeks of her career with two shutout victories over Penn and Bryant. Peak turned in arguably one of her finest performances as she led the Big Green to a 2-0 win over defending Ivy Champs Penn, previously unbeaten in Ivy play. It was also Dartmouth's first Ivy victory.

Against the Quakers, Peak made seven saves, including a cleared corner kick and point-blank save against Kristin Kaiser in the 75th minute. She ran the defense expertly, clearing out nine Penn corner kicks and starting the offensive attack with booming kicks.

In a midweek game, Peak made three saves in Dartmouth's 1-0 shutout win over Bryant. Bryant threw everything it had a Dartmouth to start the second and Peak kept the defense composed to weather the storm including stopping a blazing shot in the 46th minute.

Peak's efforts this week helped drop her goals-against average to just 0.80 with a .843 save percentage. She has five shutouts this season and nine for her career which ranks eighth all-time.

The Big Green will be back in action this Friday night when it heads to Columbia for a 7 p.m. start.
