Bedoya a Hit in Sweden

July 29, 2009

Former Boston College All-America soccer star Alejandro Bedoya, who plays professionally for Swedens Orebro SK of the Allsvenskan (the countrys first division), scored his first two league goals after entering the match in the 78th minute to help Orebro to a 2-2 draw with BK Hacken on Monday.

Bedoya entered the match with Orebro down 2-0, but scored in the 84th minute and then again in the first minute of injury time to earn a point for his team, which currently stands sixth in the 16-team league halfway through the Swedish season.

The first goal came from about 14 yards out, from the right side of the box and just inside the far post.

I thought I mis-hit it a little bit, but there was just enough pace on it and it went (inside the) back post, Bedoya said in an interview on Swedish television after the match.

The equalizer was a perfectly placed volley into the top right corner of the net, taken from the penalty spot after a cross from the right flank.

I wasnt expecting to score two goals, but the coaches told me to get in there and raise the tempo of the gameI think I did more than that, Bedoya said.

The 22-year old Bedoya - an NSCAA All-America first team honoree in 2007 after racking up 8 goals and 10 assists for the Eagles - has made 12 appearances (2 starts) for Orebro so far this season.
