Former Eagle Joins Charlie Davies in Swedish First Division

December 11, 2008

Boston College forward Alejandro Bedoya has signed a three-year contract with Swedish club Orebro SK.

Bedoya will play in the same league, the Allsvenskan, as another former Eagle, Charlie Davies (BC '07). Davies currently plays for Hammarby IF.

It feels great, Bedoya said. I dont think it has sunk in yet its still kind of surreal. Obviously, turning professional is something that Ive always aspired to do. Its a dream and a goal come true. I spent two weeks there (in Sweden) over the summer and I had a great experience. I really liked it and I feel like its a great place to start my career.

Bedoya scored six goals and notched five assists in 16 games with the Eagles this fall.

The Weston, Fla., resident is a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team honoree. He won the 2007 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and was a consensus 2007 first-team All-American. He was also named one of 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, given annually to the nations top college soccer player.

Overall in his collegiate career, Bedoya scored 27 goals and 23 assists in 72 games at BC and Fairleigh-Dickenson.

This year Orebro finished in seventh place in the Allsvenskan, two places and one point ahead of Hammarby IF. Davies, who has two years left on his pact with Hammarby, scored 14 goals last season.
