Bedoya connected with his right foot on a bouncing ball from 22 yards in the 43rd minute, concluding a first-half in which the host Eagles outshot the visiting Tar Heels, 8-3. Bedoya then doubled the BC lead with a header off a Mario Uribe cross just less than three minutes into the second half.
Uribe concluded the three-goal scoring burst at 49:18 when he placed a right-footed shot taken from the far side against the inside of the near post, then off the cross bar and into the net for his first collegiate goal and a 3-0 Eagles’ lead.
The visiting Tar Heels (5-1-1, 1-1-0) cut their deficit to two goals – at 3-1 – in the 64th minute as junior forward Eddie Ababio connected for his fifth goal in seven games.
Bedoya concluded the game’s scoring, and completed his first career hat trick, in the 73rd minute, one-timing a lob pass from Shawn Chin into the net from eight yards out.
Freshman forward Edvin Worley collected his first two collegiate assists in the victory.
Senior goalkeeper Chris Brown recorded two saves in the winning effort, including a save on a Bill Schuler header inside the six-yard box in the 43rd minute. Junior Brooks Haggerty made two saves in the UNC net.
Boston College totaled a 16-9 advantage in shots in the game. The two teams attempted seven corner kicks each.
Next, BC will host Brown University in a non-league match on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.
