Babson Gets By Framingham State
Two Goals in Five Minutes Seals Deal
September 27, 2007
BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Babson men’s soccer team scored twice in a five-minute span midway through the second half to down Framingham State, 2-1, in a non-conference game Wednesday.
Framingham State took the lead just five minutes into the game when senior Rob Harvey (Lakeville, Mass.) hit a long cross from the left side to streaking junior Stephen Rosenthal (Stoneham, Mass.). The wide-open Rosenthal then headed a shot over senior keeper Chris Necklas (Guilford, Conn.) for the 1-0 lead.
Babson turned on the offensive pressure in the second half, firing 17 of its 25 shots at Rams' senior goalie Eddie Palomba (Saugus, Mass.). The Beavers finally broke through with two goals in a five-minute stretch, beginning with a score by senior Justin Unger (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) at 65:27.
Senior Chris Schwartz (Guilford, Conn.) gained control in the midfield and slid a pass through the defense to junior Juan Rodriguez , who broke free down the left side. As Palomba came charging out of net, Rodriguez slid a pass across the goal mouth to Unger, who blasted it in to tie the contest at 1-1.
Babson took the lead four and a half minutes later when Schwartz headed a throw-in off a defender, but the carom came right back to him and the senior midfielder put it away for the eventual game-winning goal at 69:47.
With the win, Babson (7-1-1), ranked fifth in Division III New England by the NSCAA, extended its unbeaten streak to six games, while the Rams (4-2-1) saw their five-game unbeaten streak come to an end.
