BU Hall of Famer Named Head Scout of Chelsea

Emenalo Led Terriers to Three NCAA Tournaments

BOSTON, Mass. – Boston University men’s soccer Hall of Famer Mike Emenalo was named the head scout for the English Premier League’s Chelsea Football Club.

While at BU, Emenalo led the Terriers to three NCAA Tournament appearances, and he ended his career as the university’s all-time scoring leader with 36 goals and 32 assists. Emenalo was also named as an All-American in 1988 and inducted into the BU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.

After graduating from Boston University in 1989, he played professionally in Belgium and Germany before making a brief stop at England’s Notts County in the mid-90s, where he won the Anglo-Italian Cup at Wembley Stadium.

Emenalo returned to the States to play one season with the San Jose Clash. While with San Jose he competed in the first-ever Major League Soccer game in 1996. He returned to Europe and spent a season with the Spanish club Llieda before playing for Maccabi Tel-Aviv from 1998-2000 – where he first met Chelsea manager Avram Grant, who was then the manager of Tel-Aviv.

Emenalo won 14 caps for the Nigerian National Team and played in the 1994 World Cup against Argentina and Greece.
