BU, BC Release Schedules

Rivals Open Season Against Each Other

May 3, 2008

The Boston University and Boston College men’s soccer teams released their respective schedules this week, marked by the rivals’ annual season opening match set for August 29 at BC.

Eight Atlantic Coast Conference matches, including Friday night home contests against North Carolina, Duke, Virginia and Clemson, as well as a trip to the adidas-Brown Classic to face former Big East foes Villanova and St. John's highlight the 2008 Boston College men's soccer schedule.

BU, meanwhile, faces seven teams that made the 2007 NCAA tournament – including three that finished the season ranked in the top 12 nationally. BC, Providence, UMass, Connecticut, Colgate, Harvard and Vermont all made the tournament, with the Minutemen, the Huskies and the Eagles ending the year ranked fourth, fifth and 12th, respectively. BU will also square off against defending conference champions Vermont and Holy Cross and former NCAA champion St. John’s.

“This could be one of the most challenging and competitive schedules in school history,” said Terriers coach Neil Roberts. “The teams we are facing are very balanced, so it should make for a very exciting season.”

The Eagles begin their ACC schedule on Sept. 12 at Maryland. Boston College captured last fall's ACC regular-season title with a 7-1-0 record and won the 2007 ACC Tournament championship. The team will host North Carolina in its home conference opener one week later (Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.).

Boston University opens its America East schedule on Oct. 4 at home against Albany.

“The America East had a fantastic year last season and this year looks to be even better,” said Roberts. “Stony Brook and UMBC are still strong, Albany will make a comeback and Hartford continues to improve. It could be, as a whole, the conference’s most balanced and strongest year ever.”
