No. 6 Eagles Unbeaten in Last Seven

DURHAM, N.C. -- In a battle of two ACC and national powers, two goals from Alejandro Bedoya helped pace the No. 6 Boston College men?s soccer team past No. 4 Duke, 4-2, in front of 1,566 fans Friday.

BC, which also got goals from Mike Konicoff and Paul Gerstenberger, hasn?t lost in seven games and improved to 7-1-1 (4-0-0 ACC).

"This was a great win," Eagles coach Ed Kelly told BC Athletics. "We were up early and then they tied it. Then we came back for the win. I'm very pleased for the kids and I think we're playing better and better as the season progresses."

Bedoya struck first, scoring in just the sixth minute of play. The Weston, Fla., native headed a rebound off his own shot for his first of two goals on the night. Freshman Karl Reddick assisted on the score.

Gerstenberger increased the BC lead to two goals at 32:18 off a direct kick from 35 yards. Reddick had been fouled after the host Blue Devils thwarted a prime scoring opportunity, clearing a shot heading into the goal out of danger. As Reddick pursued the ball, he was taken down which set the stage for Gerstenberger.

Duke (7-3-0, 2-1-0) cut the lead in half just before halftime on a goal from Cole Grossman who finished a nice touch pass with a left-footed kick from 10 yards out.

After the Blue Devils evened the score - at 2-2 - five minutes into the second half, Bedoya netted the go-ahead goal in the 54th minute.

Bedoya was fouled deep in Duke territory and, on the ensuing free kick, he deflected Gerstenberger's left-footed shot past Duke goalkeeper Justin Papadakis (eight saves) for the score. The goal marked his sixth goal of the season.

Boston College continued its pressure after scoring the go-ahead goal. Mike Konicoff beat Papadakis at 73:13 to conclude the scoring. Senior striker Sherron Manswell assisted on the score.

BC outshot Duke, 18-12, including a 13-5 advantage in second half. The Eagles also enjoyed a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Chris Brown finished with three saves on the day, including an outstretched diving stop off a Mike Grella shot in the 65th minute.
