Late Goal Gives No. 12 the Win
October 25, 2007
NEWTON, Mass. – A late goal with under five minutes left gave No. 12 Boston College a 1-0 win over non-conference foe Dartmouth Wednesday.
Senior Sherron Manswell headed in Reuben Ayarna's free kick at 85:37 to snap a scoreless tie at Newton Campus Soccer Field.
Junior Alejandro Bedoya had drawn a foul deep in the Dartmouth corner. On the ensuing free kick, Ayarna sent a curling left-footed cross that Manswell redirected with a header for the gamewinner.
The goal marked Manswell's fifth of the season. He now has two game-winning scores to his credit.
BC improves its record to 9-3-1. The team is 5-0-0 in ACC play and it will host top-ranked Wake Forest this Saturday at 7 p.m. Dartmouth, meanwhile, falls to 8-3-2 overall.
BC junior goalkeeper Chris Brown finished with a season-high six saves, including a diving stop to his right on Mike Ordonez's shot in the 52nd minute, for his sixth shutout of the year.
Dartmouth’s Sean Milligan totaled three saves on five BC shots on net. The Big Green registered a team save late in the first half when Bedoya ripped a shot off a corner kick that was headed into the goal before being redirected before crossing the goal line.
