BC Men Take Down Terriers
Worley's First Nets Eagles Win
August 31, 2008
NEWTON, Mass. – Freshman Edvin Worley snapped a 1-1 tie in the 82nd minute to lift fourth-ranked Boston College to a 2-1 victory over Boston University in the season-opening game for the Comm Ave. rivals Friday night.
BC (1-0-0) scored the game first goal just 7:48 into the match. Senior Stephen Hepburn connected on a penalty kick after sophomore Mario Uribe had been taken down inside the 18-yard box.
The visiting Terriers (0-1-0) netted the equalizer in the 19th minute when sophomore and Hanover native Ryan Shea beat Eagles’ goalkeeper Chris Brown with his left foot from inside the six-yard box.
After more than 61 minutes of scoreless play, Worley netted the decisive score – his first collegiate goal – with his left foot off a cross from classmate Nate Bourdeau.
Brown came out of his net to successfully challenge the Terriers’ attack twice in the second half, intercepting and smothering a feed from Michael Bustamante at 71:15 and clearing away a BU scoring attempt with 10 minutes remaining.
BC finished the game with 10-4 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 advantage in the first 45 minutes.
BU senior goalkeeper Hrafn Davidson made two saves in the losing effort.
